Experience Africa July 4 – July 18, 2017

Safari (July 4 – 9, 2017)

  • Arrival. Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania where we will be waiting to take you to the beautiful Highview Hotel, a recognized 5-Star, Global Certificate of Excellence facility.

  • Day 1. Lake Manyara Game Drive, Highview Hotel. Famous for its tree-climbing lions and its varied landscape which supports an impressive range of other game.

  • Day 2. One of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world for furthering the understanding of early human evolution,  Serengeti Wild Camp is in a wonderful bush setting, with tall tent accommodations including beds, mattresses, showers and lavatory.

  • Day 3. Serengeti Game Drive, Serengiti Wild Camp. The Serengeti encompasses Serengeti National Park and a number of protected game reserves and conservation area. As region, it hosts the largest mammal migration in the world.

  • Day 4. Maasai Village, Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive, Highview Hotel.

    • Experience how the Maasai people live and get to know their culture and customs on a visit to a traditional Maasai village.

    • The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is a protected area and a World Heritage Site. The area is named after Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera within the area.

  • Day 5. Tarangire Game Reserve, Moshi, Springlands Hotel.

    • Tarangire National Park is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania, it is located in Manyara Region.

    • Moshi is situated on the lower slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano and highest mountain in Africa.

    • Springlands Hotel is the base for mountain hiking and other wilderness areas. Named after the freshwater springs just short distance from the hotel. Rated 4.9/5 on Trip Advisor.

Included: All accommodation, all meals, safari vehicles and guides. Airport drop-off provided.

Transition Day (July 10, 2017)

  • Springlands Hotel, rest day.

  • Leadership development and orientation for the climb.

The Climb (July 11 – 18, 2017)

  • Day 1. Moshi (915 m/3,000 ft) to Machame Gate (1,490 m/4,890 ft) then climb to Machame Camp (2,980 m/9,780 ft), 5-7 hours

  • Day 2. Machame Camp (2,980 m/9,780 ft) to Shira Camp (3,840 m/12,600 ft) – 9 km/5.6 mi, 4-6 hours

  • Day 3. Shira Camp to Lava Tower (4,630 m/15,190 ft) to Barranco Camp (3,950 m/12,960 ft) – 15 km/8.9 mi, 7 hours

  • Day 4. Barranco Camp (3,950 m/12,960 ft) to Karanga (4,026 m/13,277 ft) – 9.5 km/6 mi, 3-5 hours

  • Day 5. Karanga (4,026 m/13,277 ft) to Barafu (4600m /15,200 ft)- 3.9/2.5 mi, km, 3-5 hours

  • Day 6. The Summit!

    • Barafu Camp (4,600 m/15,200 ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m/19,341 ft) to Mweka Camp (3,100 m/10,170 ft) – 7 km/4.4mi up, 23 km/14.9 mi down, 6 – 8 hours up, 7-8 hours down

  • Day 7. Mweka Camp (3,100 m/10,170 ft) to Mweka Gate (1,980 m/6,500 ft) to Moshi (890 m/2,920 ft) – 15 km/8.9 mi, 3-4 hours

  • Day 8. End -Transport to airport for flight home (included) – some will want to stay on to be with the orphan community and Heshie (& Werner).

Included: All accommodation, all meals and guides through breakfast July 18, 2017. Airport drop-off provided.
